Meeting Shorter Turnaround Demands in the Wide Format Printing Market

Meeting Shorter Turnaround Demands in the Wide Format Printing Market

In today’s fast-paced world, the demand for quick and efficient wide format printing services is on the rise. From architectural plans to banners and posters, clients often require their projects completed in record time. If you’re in the wide format printing business, meeting these shorter turnaround demands is essential for staying competitive. In this blog, we’ll explore strategies and tips to help you excel in this aspect of the printing industry.

1. Invest in a High-Performance Wide Format Plotter

The foundation of any successful wide format printing business is the equipment. To meet shorter deadlines, invest in high-performance wide format plotters. These machines can handle larger print sizes, higher resolutions, and faster printing speeds. Having the right equipment is the first step towards achieving quicker turnarounds.

2. Maintain and Upgrade Your Equipment

Regular maintenance is key to ensuring that your wide format plotters are always running at their best. Regularly clean and calibrate your machines to avoid downtime due to technical issues. Consider upgrading your equipment when necessary to take advantage of the latest technology that can boost productivity.

3. Stock Up on Supplies

As someone who deals with wide format plotters and supplies, it’s crucial to keep an ample stock of ink, toner, and other consumables. Running out of supplies in the middle of a project can lead to costly delays. Having a well-managed inventory system ensures you’re always prepared to take on urgent orders.

4. Streamline Workflow Processes

Efficient workflow processes are essential for quick turnarounds. Optimize your production workflow by eliminating unnecessary steps and automating repetitive tasks where possible. Implementing a robust project management system can help track orders and deadlines effectively.

5. Employ a Skilled and Agile Team

Your team plays a vital role in meeting shorter turnaround demands. Hire skilled personnel who are experienced in wide format printing. Cross-training employees to handle different aspects of the printing process can make your team more versatile and adaptable to changing workloads.

6. Prioritize Communication

Clear and timely communication with your clients is crucial. Set realistic expectations for delivery times and keep clients updated on the progress of their projects. Good communication can help build trust and understanding, especially when facing tight deadlines.

7. Offer Rush Services

Consider offering rush or expedited services for clients who need their projects completed urgently. Charge a premium for these services to compensate for the added workload and ensure your profitability.

8. Build Relationships with Suppliers

Maintaining good relationships with your suppliers can be invaluable. They can often provide you with priority access to supplies during peak demand times, ensuring you never run out of essential materials.

9. Plan for Contingencies

No matter how well-prepared you are, unexpected issues can arise. Have contingency plans in place for equipment breakdowns, power outages, or other emergencies. This will help you minimize downtime and fulfill your commitments.

10. Embrace Technology

Explore software solutions that can help you manage orders, track production, and improve efficiency. There are various software packages designed specifically for print shops that can streamline your operations.

In conclusion, meeting shorter turnaround demands in the wide format printing market requires a combination of the right equipment, efficient processes, a skilled team, and excellent customer communication. By implementing these strategies and staying adaptable to market changes, your wide format printing business can thrive even in the face of tight deadlines.

Ready To Upgrade Your Plotter? 5 Signs That Show It’s Time

Ready To Upgrade Your Plotter?

5 Signs that indicate it’s time

1

When To Buy A New Plotter

1. Print Quality Decreases

2. Frequency of Maintenance

3. Production slows down

4. new technology advancements

5. difficulty meeting demand

1. Print Quality Decreases

Are your prints coming out exactly they way you expected? After years of use, older plotters may begin to perform poorly, losing clarity even when you’ve replaced the ink and bought high quality paper. When it comes to large-scale images, the quality of your prints is extremely important, whether it is a project for your business or for a customer. If replacing the ink, toner, and paper isn’t helping, and having service done on the machine doesn’t change the print quality, it may be time to upgrade.

2. Frequency Of Maintenance

How often does your printer need maintenance? Aside from changing out inks and adding new rolls of paper, are service calls becoming a part of your routine? If you find that you are paying for repairs and service more often, it is definitely time for a new machine. Not only is the maintenance costing extra money, but the parts for older machines may become more difficult to find.

3. Production Slows Down

As with most technology, printers slow down as time goes on. Even with proper maintenance, the parts just don’t work the way they used to. If you find that you are waiting on the printer to finish projects rather than feeling like the job was completed in a reasonable time, you may have a problem. If you’re tired of waiting on projects, looking into a new printer with quicker print speeds is the solution.

4. New Technology Advancements

Plotters can last for a long time, but that doesn’t mean they will always meet your needs. Newer technology isn’t just exciting, it is necessary to keep up with competition. The latest tech can help improve your overall workflow through quality and efficiency. Not to mention the types of print jobs that can be done with the latest printers and different inks. Having a printer that can handle more complex prints will make a big difference.

5. Difficulty Meeting Demand

Are you meeting project deadlines or falling behind on jobs? Has your demand increased? If so, upgrading your printer can make a huge difference. Newer technology is typically quicker and design programs are always advancing. So why try to keep things going with a plotter that is just getting by when you can upgrade to one with the latest technology to help you work more efficiently.

Accelerating Hybrid Work- Challenges and How to Overcome Them

Accelerating Hybrid Work

CHALLENGES AND HOW TO OVERCOME THEM

In recent years, hybrid and fully remote options have become the new way to work. More companies than ever are switching over to these types of work models. Hybrid systems can not only benefit employees, but it can also be a great alternative for employers. Let’s explore the benefits of hybrid work as well as the challenges that come with it and how to overcome them.

The 5 Cs

The 5 Cs concept dives into some of the most common challenges hybrid and fully remote workers face and how to combat them¹

communication

Communication is key in any relationship, including your work connections. It can be challenging to maintain consistent communication when everyone is somewhere different. Remote work can also have technology issues that could create a communication barrier.

To combat this, you can find ways to keep in touch. Using a video communication service such as Skype can help to open up conversations between people in the office and those who are at home. Set check in times where employees who are at home check in through Skype, email, or a phone call to keep communications going.

coordination

Make sure to coordinate with workers who aren't in the office. Often times, remote workers can miss out on minor discussions and decisions, which can leave them feeling left out or cause them to fall behind on a task.

To combat this, make sure to send an email to everyone discussing any decisions made, not just big ones, but the small ones too.

connection

Feeling connected to the team is extremely important for remote and hybrid workers. Social connections can be difficult to keep up when half of the team is not in the office. This can lead to a division between employees and possibly cause remote workers to feel less valued and become less committed.

To combat this, do team building exercises and/or trips. Play a game over Skype, do a team building exercise, or schedule a meet up, such as dinner or a group hike.

creativity

Creativity can often flow when a group of people get together and bring up their ideas. It can be difficult to conversate about ideas when the team is not in the same room together. The back and forth conversation can help to discuss creative ideas.

To combat this, have set times for brainstorming. Give a task and allow everyone to brainstorm some ideas on their own before connecting via video chat, phone call, or email to discuss together. Or schedule collective brainstorming for a day when the most employees will be in the office if working in a hybrid model.

culture

When employees are all working together in the same office, a workplace culture grows. Everyone begins to understand how to work together and the best ways to get tasks done. They communicate expectations and have frequent talks with each other leading to a collective understanding of the company's culture. This can be difficult for remote employees to grasp since they are not in the office constantly socializing with their team.

To combat this, make the company's values known. Write up a short bio on company culture complete with values and expectations. Have a live view of the main office that employees can view from home to observe the office and help them feel connected to the team.

hybrid/remote work benefits

With hybrid and remote work becoming so prevalent in today’s workforce, it is becoming easier to do in a way that benefits the companies and employees. Working from home can give people a sense of control in their life, allowing them to feel less stressed and therefor more able to focus on work. Not having to commute to work everyday also allows workers to have more time to spend on their families and home life. As long as employers make sure to keep remote workers involved with the team, this type of work model can be beneficial to the company as a whole by allowing employees the choice of working in the office or from home to suit whatever option works best.

Is a Hybrid Work Model a Good Idea for You?

Take the time to weigh your options. In today's work culture, it is becoming more difficult to hire reliable employees to come into the office everyday. Consider whether or not your business requires in office employees or if remote work can be the new way for office work?

8 Tips To Achieve Your Business’s New Years Resolutions

8 Tips To Achieve Your Business's New Years Resolutions

As the cold air begins to creep in, the sun goes down earlier, and the leaves start falling off the trees, we tend to want to cuddle up in our homes and relax. We want to enjoy the holidays, and although it is the perfect time to get in some relaxation or spend some extra time with family and friends, it is also a good time to look over the past year and reassess our lives. At the beginning of every New Year, it is common practice to make a list of New Year’s Resolutions. You set goals for yourself, so why not for your business? In this article, we will  discuss our top 8 tips for making resolutions for you business and how you can achieve them.

1. Reflect on the Previous Year

Did you set goals for 2022? Bring out your list or write down any goals you remember setting for your business and check off everything that you accomplished.

  • Analyze- Review your goals and determine what you accomplished, what you started but didn’t complete, and what you didn’t pursue.
  • Prioritize- Sort through any aspirations that you were not able to check off. Are these still important to your business? Determine if they are achievable or are they unrealistic? Do they still hold relevance?
  • Remove- Get rid of any goals that do not align with your company’s objectives. Resolutions won’t always be easy, but they also shouldn’t be so far-stretched that they hold you back.
  • Connect- Attach your previous goals with new ones.

2. Brainstorm

Conceptualize your objectives with a brainstorm. Remember learning how to write a paper in middle school? Yes, that’s what we’re going back to here. Use mini goals to achieve your main goals. Brainstorming is great not only for your resolutions but also for daily tasks. Getting all of your thoughts written down, no matter what they are can help you organize your thoughts and in turn, you will be less likely to forget ideas since you have logged everything. Simply write down or type up all of your thoughts on a subject or if your thoughts get out of order, try the spiderweb method. Write out each major goal in a bubble and web it to other mini goals that will help you to accomplish the main goal.

3. Business Plan

When is the last time you wrote out a business plan? Often times this is done when a company is just starting out, but why not do so at the beginning of every year or when it feels like you need to refresh. If you already have a business plan, pull it out and look it over. If you do not have a business plan, making one can help accomplish your goals by having something to refer to throughout the year. Just search the internet for business plans or use try using this guide by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

4. Get Noticed

How can you get the word out about your business? What forms of advertising are you using? Are they working? If they are, continue what you’re doing. If not, either change up what you are putting out or try a different type of advertising. Most options are free however some will require some payment.

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • Google advertising
  • Your Website
  • Email

Don’t forget that not all advertising is done online!

  • Printed Flyers (handed or mailed out)
  • Posters (advertised in stores)
  • Promote on a company vehicle
  • Word of mouth

5. Task Management

Get some assistance with managing your to-do lists. Take advantage of applications and websites that can help you get organized. Simply search for task management in your app store or search for something on the internet. Here are some of the top rated apps and websites. 4

(This blog is not sponsored by or affiliated with any of these websites)

6. Equipment and Inventory

New year, new products! Take the time to look over your equipment and go through your inventory. The equipment you use is important if you want to be productive. Is anything broken or not working at its best? Get it fixed or get something new! Spending the upfront costs can be intimidating but in the long run, the right equipment should save you money and make business more profitable and productive. Got boxes of inventory sitting around? Go through everything. The end of the year is a great time to clean out old stock. If you have anything hasn’t sold, have an end of the year sale.

7. Prioritize Workroom Culture

If you run a small business, you likely are around your employees or coworkers a lot. Take notice of how everyone is doing. Do your employees drag there feet when they walk in the door? Are they putting out effort to get tasks done? A well adjusted company culture can improve business all around. Don’t want to put your employees in an awkward position? Put out an anonymous survey to see how your employees see their job and workplace. Incorporate team events, add incentives, give them something to look forward to. Employees will be 125% more productive at work when they engaged, appreciated, and respected ².

8. Work-Life Balance

You can’t spend every moment thinking about work. Dedicate time to take care of yourself. When you are out of the office, don’t work. If you have to do some extra work outside of your normal workspace, make sure to set a time limit. You won’t be able to work at your best if you don’t take the time to relax and recharge. Here are some ways to take care of yourself while at work:

  •  Eat lunch away from your desk
  •  Take a walk on your breaks
  •  Do some stretches, yoga, or a meditation
  •  Stop thinking about work when you walk out the door
